YOU can do it! Because
YOU have taken the first step.

Welcome back!
Before we get started today I want to give you FULL
DISCLOSURE.
Throughout the newsletters I'll often make reference to
companies that I recommend you use. And some of these companies I AM affiliated with, which means that
if you decide to purchase from those companies, I will make a commission.
HOWEVER, I'm not forcing you to do so. If you don't
feel like these newsletters are providing you the value you expected, I have also provided you with a NON affiliate
link. Which means that you can choose to click on those links and I won't get paid a penny. Even if you
decide to purchase.
These will ALWAYS be located at the very bottom of each
newsletter so that you know exactly where to find them at all times.
I don't want to force you to do anything you're not
comfortable with.
All right then. Are we ready?
Let's get on with this week!
I hope you've had an opportunity to find out which niche
you'd like to work in. If you do, CONGRATULATIONS! This is a very big first
step!
This week we'll focus on two items that you'll need in order
to get that website of yours up and running!
Those two items are:
- A Domain Name
- Web Hosting
Now if either of these terms sound too technical or if they
feel a little bit scary right now, that's ok. We'll walk through this together and by the end of this
newsletter you'll understand how to get both of these done in no time flat!
A Domain Name
Now I realize that some of you reading this newsletter may already have your own domain name
and if you do, I encourage you to read on to see if that domain name will fit the niche you've chosen
for yourself.
Your domain name (which is also called a website address) is your personal "address"
online. It's the website address that you'll use to market your niche business and where you'll be
sending all of your website traffic.
It is your www.YourVeryOwnWebsite.com web
address.
You can get a domain name from businesses online called "domain name registrar's" which are
companies that can search for a website address for you, tell you if it's available and then help you
register that website address so that you are the sole owner of it.
There are lots of domain name registrar's online and quite frankly the only REAL difference
between them is the price that they'll charge you for your domain name.
They all perform the same kind of service, registering a website address for you.
Web Hosting
You can think of web hosting as your own spot on a very large computer. This spot is
where all of your files for your website will go.
Whenever someone visits www.YourFantasticWebsite.com it is your web hosting company that
will show that visitor your website.
You absolutely need both of these, a domain name and web hosting of your own if you're going
to run your own business online.
Thankfully, both of these are very, very cost-effective.
A domain name only runs a few dollars a year and web hosting only runs a few dollars a
month.
So Where Do You Start?
I suggest registering your domain name and getting web hosting all at the same location.
This just makes your job all that much easier.
But first, we need to pick out a domain name.
When you think of your niche and you toss around ideas in your head as to what you'd like your
domain name to be, what do you think of?
Jot down your ideas on a piece of paper and keep them handy.
Let's take a "for instance".
Let's say you chose the cooking niche from our previous newsletter and you've decided you want
to create a website on BBQing.
BBQ is a word you'd want to use in your domain name.
Barbeque could work too - just a different way of spelling it.
But what other words could you use? Let's brainstorm some ideas:
- how to
- delicious
- grill
- smoker
- seasoning
- best
- ribs
These are just a few terms you could use in your domain name.
So some ideas you might jot down are:
- HowtoBBQ.com
- HowtoBarbeque.com
- DeliciousBBQ.com
- GrillDeliciousBBQ.com
- PerfectlySeasonedBBQ.com
Here, we're just adding in terms that we've come up with that will fit the overall concept we
have for our website address.
It's a good idea to come up with lots of different ideas for your domain name simply because
we don't know which ones will actually be available for us to register.
Many, many people have websites registered online already and sometimes we need to think
outside of the box a little bit in order to find a really good domain name.
Once you've got these ideas jotted down, we can then head on over to HostGator.com.
The reason I suggest HostGator is because I personally use them and have for
years. They are a fantastic company, and offer web hosting plans second to none at very affordable
prices.
If you choose to go this route and get web hosting and a domain name all in one location the
first thing we'll do is choose a hosting plan from HostGator and then once you go through the process, you'll
be given the option to search for your domain names to see which ones are available.
Once you're at HostGator, click the big yellow button at the top of the page to view all of
the different hosting plans.
They're pretty self-explanatory but just to give you a quick "once-over", you'll probably want
to choose the "Hatchling" or the "Baby" plan.
The only difference between the two is that the Hatchling plan will only let you use one
domain name with it and the Baby plan let's you add multiple domain names to the same account (which could
save you money in the long run if you decide to move into other niches down the road).
I personally use the Baby plan but, remember, you can always upgrade later on down the line if
you want to.
Once you've chosen the plan you want, you'll be offered the option of choosing a domain
name.
Enter one of your ideas in the box provided and HostGator
will let you know if it's available or not.
If you're having a tough time finding a domain name to register, you can use a service like
NameCheap.com, and enter in multiple domain name ideas at one time using the "Bulk Register"
link.
Once you've found a domain name that's available, you can then go back to HostGator and
register that website address.
After you've finished walking through the all of the steps and the payment process, you'll
then own your very own domain name AND web hosting account!
CONGRATULATIONS! You've just taken a very first step in getting your business up and
running online and you're well on your way to earning that income!
Next week, we'll actually get to work on creating your very own website. I know
that it's hard to believe, "Only week 3 and I'm going to actually BUILD a website?"
Yes, and it won't be nearly as difficult as you may think. As a matter of fact, if
you've used HostGator it will be incredibly easy because they give you so many free templates to use to
create your own site.
So, stay tuned...
See you in a week!
